We've been to Oelsnitz. There we've seen how Plauen Lace is made (through a factory window).
Plauener Spitze (Plauen Lace) apparently was (or is) something desirable and one of the few things exported worldwide from the GDR. In case you wonder what it is, check google image search because I have no idea how to explain it .
I remember that the factory was directly located at the street and not surrounded by a fence. Taking a glimpse at a (semi)-industrial production process was something 8 year old me did enjoy even if he didn't care about the product .
