WePing - A Multi User Ping.fm Client
Social networks become a more and more important way for people to receive their news. Companies as well as independent projects try to adapt to this development by opening accounts and fanpages on these networks.
However, there are some problems in managing these accounts. Most social networks have no concept of sharing an account between multiple people. But if you want, eg. your marketing or support team to use your company's account, then that is what you need. Additionally, there isn't just one social network. But how can you post your news to multiple networks at once?
This is where WePing comes into play. WePing basically is a web based multi user ping.fm client. Ping.fm supports posting to more than 40 different websites and provides an API to do so from your own applications.
This solves both problems mentioned above. Ping.fm takes care of handling multiple networks and WePing provides its own authentication for multiple users. All you have to do is
- Create your social network accounts
- Open a Ping.fm account
- Give Ping.fm access to your social network accounts
- Install WePing and configure the Ping.fm API key
- Give WePing accounts to all your support team members
You never need to share the social network account credentials with your team members and you can add new services in a central place (ping.fm).
WePing just requires PHP. Users are created in a simple config file and are authenticated through Digest Auth. All posts sent through the WePing interface are signed by the logged in user1). It can also used as bookmarklet2) to make posting links even simpler.
WePing is available from github and is released under GPLv2.
PS: WePing is used to send DokuWiki news to various social network sites.
